BAG FILTERS

for industrial applications

BAG FILTERS

Aeris bag filters are advanced industrial filtration systems designed for the effective removal of fine and coarse dust generated by a wide range of production processes.
Also available in versions equipped with screw conveyors or rotary valves, these filters ensure high performance and operational safety, including ATEX-compliant configurations for use in explosive environments.

The selection of the most suitable bag filter depends on the specific requirements of the industrial process, taking into account factors such as dust characteristics, gas temperature, and operating conditions. Proper engineering and maintenance ensure high performance and full compliance with applicable industrial emission regulations. Each Aeris filter can be fully customised to meet specific industrial needs, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

BAG FILTER OPERATION

Contaminated air initially enters a settling chamber, where the increased volume reduces air velocity, allowing the heavier particles to fall into the lower hopper.

In versions equipped with a screw conveyor and rotary valve, the collected dust is automatically and continuously discharged, ensuring efficient removal or recovery.

The airflow containing finer particles then passes through the filter bags from the outside to the inside. Dust particles are retained on the surface of the filter bags, while the cleaned air is discharged through the outlet.

To maintain optimal filtration efficiency, the filter is equipped with either a mechanical shaking system or an automatic reverse pulse cleaning system. Short pulses of compressed air are injected into the filter bags, facilitating the removal of accumulated dust and extending the service life of the filtering elements.

ADVANTAGES OF BAG FILTERS

  • Adaptability: suitable for a wide range of dust types with different characteristics;
  • High efficiency in the separation of both fine and coarse particles;
  • Easy and fast maintenance;
  • Automatic cleaning system with reduced energy consumption;
  • Modular design: engineered to handle both low and very high airflow rates, ensuring maximum flexibility in installation to any specific requirements;
  • ATEX certification: versions available for use in potentially explosive environments.

FAQ

In which industrial applications are bag filters recommended over other filtration technologies?

Bag filters are the industry standard for treating air streams containing high concentrations of dust, coarse particulate, abrasive materials or contaminants that tend to agglomerate. They are the ideal solution for demanding industries such as foundries, steel mills, cement plants, woodworking, brick and ceramics manufacturing, glass production, and processes involving medium- to high-temperature exhaust gases. Compared to cartridge filters, filter bags can handle significantly higher dust loads and are less susceptible to rapid clogging when processing challenging dusts.

Our systems feature an automatic reverse pulse-jet cleaning system. During operation, dust accumulates on the outer surface of the filter bags, which are internally supported by robust steel cages. An electronic controller continuously monitors the system’s pressure drop (differential pressure). When the preset differential pressure threshold is reached, the pulse-jet system activates a series of solenoid valves that release high-pressure compressed air into the filter bags. The resulting shock wave rapidly expands and flexes the filter media, dislodging the accumulated dust cake, which falls into the collection hopper below without interrupting the extraction process in the production areas.

The selection of the filter media depends on the specific operating conditions of the air stream. Our engineers evaluate several parameters, including air temperature, humidity, gas acidity or alkalinity, and dust particle size before selecting the most suitable filter media.

We use a wide range of technical fabrics, including:

  • Polyester or Polypropylene – suitable for standard dust applications at low to medium operating temperatures.
  • Aramid Fibres (Nomex®) or PPS – recommended for hot gases and high-temperature processes (up to 200°C and above).
  • Surface Treatments and PTFE Membranes – designed to improve the release of wet, hygroscopic or extremely fine dust while increasing overall filtration efficiency.

Yes. Our entire range of bag filters can be designed and configured for safe operation in ATEX-classified hazardous areas, in full compliance with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. For these applications, the filtration system is equipped with conductive filter bags manufactured using antistatic filter media to safely dissipate electrostatic charges. The system can also be integrated with certified explosion protection devices such as explosion vent panels, flame-proof rotary valves and explosion isolation systems designed to prevent flame propagation throughout the installation.

Routine maintenance includes regular inspection of the compressed air supply pressure, periodic emptying of the dust collection containers or rotary airlock valves located beneath the collection hopper, and continuous monitoring of the differential pressure switch. The main indicators that filter bags require replacement include:

  • Permanently high pressure drop.
  • Reduced airflow at the extraction hoods throughout the facility.
  • Visible dust emissions from the exhaust stack, indicating wear, damage or rupture of one or more filter bags.
